Awards
Awards
In recognition of the dedication and hard work of those candidates who achieve outstanding results in their examinations, a number of awards and scholarships are awarded each academic year by RCM Examinations, The Royal Conservatory, and The Frederick Harris Music Co., Limited. All examination candidates are automatically eligible and considered for awards and scholarships (i.e., application is not required).

Silver Medals
Silver Medals are awarded for each academic year (i.e., September 1 to August 31) in each province or designated region to the candidates in Grades 1 to 10 who have obtained the highest marks in each grade and discipline. To qualify for Silver Medals, candidates must have obtained at least 80 percent in the practical examination and have completed the co-requisite theory examinations for their respective grade.

Gold Medals
For full details on Gold Medal eligibility, please consult a current syllabus.

Practical
Gold Medals are awarded for each academic year (i.e., September 1 to August 31) to both the Teacher’s ARCT and Performer’s ARCT candidates who obtain the highest marks in each of the following disciplines: accordion, brass, guitar, harp, organ, percussion, piano, speech arts and drama, strings, voice, and woodwinds.

Performer’s ARCT candidates must obtain a minimum of 85 percent in the practical examination and a minimum of 70 percent in each of the co-requisite theory examinations and (where applicable) a minimum of 60 percent in the co-requisite piano examination.

Teacher’s ARCT candidates must obtain a minimum of 85 percent in the practical examination (Parts 1 and 2 combined), a minimum of 70 percent in the written examination (Part 3), a minimum of 70 percent in each of the co-requisite theory examinations, and (where applicable) a minimum of 60 percent in the co-requisite piano examination.

Theory
A Gold Medal for Excellence in Theory will be awarded each academic year (September 1 to August 31) to the candidate who has achieved the highest average mark upon the completion of all of the following examinations:
Basic Harmony or Basic Keyboard Harmony
Intermediate Harmony or Intermediate Keyboard Harmony
Advanced Harmony or Advanced Keyboard Harmony
Counterpoint
Analysis
History 1: An Overview
History 2: Middle Ages to Classical
History 3: 19th Century to Present

Candidates will be considered for the Gold Medal for Excellence in Theory in the academic year in which they are eligible to graduate with an ARCT diploma. Candidates must obtain an overall average of at least 80 percent for the eight examinations.


The Frederick Harris Music Co., Limited Awards
An award is granted to each candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 80%) in the practical examination in their particular discipline and grade for their province (or region). All theory co-requisites must be completed prior to or in the same academic year as the practical examination.

Florence Aymong Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the Gold Medallist in Speech Arts and Drama (Teacher’s ARCT only).

Esme Rose Crichton Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest marks (minimum 80%) for Grade 9, 10. Winners must reside in Saskatchewan.

Antal Janos Dvorak Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 80%) in Canada in a trombone examination, Grade 9 or higher.

Ellenora Easton Rowatt Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in the Grade 4 Piano examination in Scarborough South Centre.

Gordon Hallett Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who obtains the highest aggregate mark (minimum 80%) in both the written and practical ARCT Piano Teacher's examination.

Simon and Emma Kruger Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in the Grade 10 Violin examination in Manitoba.

Annie Larson Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in a violin examination, Grade 8 or higher. The winner must be a resident of Saskatchewan.

Patricia McLean Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in the Grade 8 Piano examination in Canada.

Adelmo Melecci Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in Ontario in the ARCT Piano Teacher’s complete practical examination.

Helen Tough Murray Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in the ARCT Piano Performer's examination. The recipient must be a citizen of Canada.

Doris A. Proud Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in piano (Grades 1 – 10), and has completed the corresponding theory co-requisites (where applicable). The winner must reside in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Kathryn Sinclair Prize
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark in the Grade 5 History examination in Canada.

Jean Snowden Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 80%) in the Grade 9 Piano examination in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Joseph Szabo Scholarship

Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest total mark (minimum of 70%), in the Grade 8 Accordion practical examination, and the theory co-requisites in Ontario.

Charlotte Anne Walker Scholarship
Awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest mark (minimum 85%) on the Grade 10 Piano examination, and who has completed the theory co-requisites with an average of at least 75%. The candidate must reside in Elgin County, Ontario.
